Positive things that are happening in the fight against
Alzheimer's
A reader
recently noted to us that all he saw on our site was defensive
strategy, how to stay ahead of the demons, etc. He pointed
out that, while defense is important, even crucial, it's not
enough. You cannot win a game or a battle by defense
alone. What about offense? What's happening on the
offensive side of this game?
We thought about
that for a bit, and decided that he was right on! Moreover
defense is prevention, negative. Offense is attacking and
scoring, positive. It's time we looked at the good news
also. So we started up this "Good News Corner", which is and
will be about positive things happening in the struggle to live our
lives free of Alzheimer's and other dementias.

- Experimental drug AF267B
For the first time, an experimental drug has been successful in reducing two types of brain lesions present en Alzheimer's disease. The tests demonstrated that the compound AF267B slowed and reversed the formations of both beta-amyloidal plaques and the presence of fiber tangles of the tau protein in the brains oflaboratory mice. These types of brain lesions are common in people with Alzheimer's disease.
- Treatments Being Developed
The race is on for the next generation of Alzheimer's treatments and drugs. Here are the three front-runners, two based on Selective Amyloid beta-42 Lowering Agents (SALAs) and one based on humanized monoclonal antibodies. Whichever one wins the race, we all win!
